Bahia Honda Key

Bahia Honda Key is an island in the lower Florida Keys. Much of the island is a state park. Aside from nice beaches, interesting fauna and flora, there are great views of what is left of the Bahia Honda Rail Bridge. The bridge was built as a part of the Overseas Railway (known as "Eigth Wonder of the World") that operated from 1912 to 1935. The railway was heavily damaged in the "storm of the century", a category 5 Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Many of its bridges became a part of the Overseas Highway. Many of them were replaced in the 1980s and serve as pedestrian walkways, fishing piers, or a rusting testimony to a bygone time.
