Mendocino - Day 2

We spent the night in a motel in Ukiah. I picked up a travel magazine there and saw a picture of a beach that I liked. And that is where we decided to go. We followed Highway 253 over mountains to Anderson valley, then continued through the valley itself and finally through redwoods past Navarro before reaching the coast. From there we drove south on Highway 1 to Point Arena and climbed every stair of the 100ft lighthouse. They have an original Fresnel lens on display and other fascinating stuff including a huge mercury bearing that the lens rotated on. Later in the afternoon, we watched the sunset from the Bowling Ball beach, which was every bit as good as the picture in the magazine.
